Cooking With Fresh Herbs

I love cooking with fresh herbs; they make my dishes go from good to great! Some of my favorites, which all grow in my garden are: sweet basil, thyme, rosemary and parsley. Here is a colorful chart of popular herbs and their uses. Also a handy link from A Visual Guide to Fresh Herbs

Storage – To store most fresh herbs, just trim the stems and place the herbs in a jar of water; cover the tops with a plastic bag or wrap, and refrigerate. Herbs will keep for at least a week, often longer.

Cooking – Add fresh herbs at the end of cooking for maximum flavor.

Cost – The cost of fresh herbs at the market can add up; growing your own can help cut down on food costs as well as waste.
