Focusing on Health

BrownQuote2

Now is the time to Focus On Your Health!  It’s been awhile since I’ve posted here on my blog, but it’s not because I’d decided to abandon it, just the opposite. Sometimes we need to step away from something to really get a true understanding of it and that is what I needed to do with GoodFoodMama.

I wanted to make sure I was taking it in the direction it needed to go at this time in my life. I wanted to make sure it was serving a purpose to my clients, to you and to myself.

While the message stays the same, “Motivating and inspiring you to reach your best health potential!” my approach will be one that offers more interaction with you! There will be more tips, quotes and daily actions you can do, right now, to help you care for yourself and to reach your best health potential.

One way for you all to get more daily messages from me is to follow me on Twitter or Facebook

In addition, starting November 1st clients will be receiving “Good News + Good Vibes = Healthy Life!” a monthly newsletter packed with healthy, motivating and inspiring information to help you live a healthier life! If you have already signed up to get emails you will also be receiving the newsletter. If you have not signed up, do so now!

Be Healthy!

Monday Motivation…Slow Progress is still Progress!

IMG_1897

Hi Everyone! Every now and then we need a little extra shot of motivation, inspiration to keep us going and today felt like one of those days.

I know it gets tough sometimes to stay motivated when progress slows down and it seems like nothing is happening at all.

Know that even if you can’t physically see the results every effort, every healthy choice is changing your body from the inside, never give up!

What If Motivation Is Not Enough?

One of my favorite quotes is “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” There has never been a more accurate quote, but what happens if you become un-motivated before what ever you are doing becomes a habit?

Sometimes, no a lot of times people become discouraged or frustrated because reaching their goal is taking longer than they had expected. As a result they stop performing the specific actions that are needed to reach their goal and those actions do not become habits, which leads to nothing changing.

Therefore this post serves as a reminder that the health and fitness goals you choose should be part of a bigger picture, HEALTHY LIVING! Everything you are doing is a process, a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

It is not going to happen over night or over a week, but it will happen if you stick with it, be patient and maintain an attitude (and behavior) that moves you in the right direction!

Yes You Can!

HealthyHabits2

Happy Monday Everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend! Yesterday was my Healthy Habits Workshop and it was truly inspiring to see participants focusing and opening up about their health goals!  Everyone really connected and supported each other with pinpointing goals, designing plans and coming up with doable actions!  A Sunday well spent!

The take home message here is “Yes You Can” train your brain to create healthy habits! Keep these 8 things in mind…

1) Specify the habit you would like to create.

2) Recognize the intentions and purpose of your habit.

3) Understand the value of adopting the new habit.

4) Repetition is key.

5) Be aware of warning signs and/or triggers.

6) Create a solid plan of actions.

7) Stay motivated in keeping the new habits.

8) Understand that creating new habits take time.

Go make some healthy habits and stop saying “I can’t” and start saying “I can!”

Make It Happen!

Happy Monday! This Monday as with every Monday I want to share some motivation, some inspiration…Make it Happen! When in comes to your health you can’t sit back and wait for things to happen. You must first devote yourself to an idea, intention a goal! Next, plan it out; write it down, overcome your fears and own it! Once you’ve done that you MUST act on it, work hard and make it happen!

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, some make it happen.”

Go Make it Happen!

Getting Back on Track With Your Fitness Routine

How are your fitness goals coming along? Consistency with fitness is important, but sometimes life happens! It’s easy to get a little off track with your eating and exercise routine. Don’t despair it happens to everyone. Here are a few things you can try to get you back on the fitness track!

Slide1

  1. If you have been having trouble getting your exercise in, try a short workout. Even ten minutes is better than nothing. Once you find that you are able to manage that keep adding ten minutes to your workout until you are back up to your regular time.
  1. Do you have the food blahs? Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new foods! There is a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables available so hit your local farmer’s market and enjoy!
  1. Create a motivational health and fitness collage, like the one above. Include pictures of your goals and reasons why you want to get there.
  1. Work with a Health Coach, you’ll be more accountable. Find a workout buddy or get support from friends and family to help give you ideas and encouragement.

How do you stay motivated for fitness?

Leading By Example

Be Healthy

4 years ago I was probably in the worst shape of my life. I had just finish graduate school (Public Health) and I had put on weight, had severe knee problems (weight related), I was suffering from insomnia and heading for a divorce. I was mentally, physically and emotionally drained.

This was a very challenging time for me. I knew what I needed to do to be healthy and fit (undergrad is in Kinesiology with a focus on exercise, nutrition and wellness) that is what I do for a living, help people become healthy and fit and stay that way, but for a lot of reasons I neglected to help myself.  For years!

It was a Saturday in July 2012 when I said, Donna it’s time to take back your life, now! I made a commitment to myself to get in the best health possible, not for my kids, not for my ex, but for ME! That is what I did and what I continue to do!

I started eating mindfully; I designed a fitness program that fit my needs, I started teaching spin classes again (really missed that) and I created GoodFoodMama! Now I’m doing what I love – my coaching and consulting business is growing, allowing me to keep on inspiring as many people as I can to choose fitness and don’t give up – and surrounding myself with people who love me for me!

What’s your story? How are you taking care of you?

Healthy Living Manifesto

Happy Monday! I’ve been thinking a lot about healthy living and making healthy choices lately! Not just eating more fruits and vegetables (we all know that is important) more like balancing my time, reducing stress and being happy!

I figured it was time to visit and update my Healthy Living Manifesto! Here are the first 15, which was composed mostly on making healthy choices.

GFM Healthy Living Manifesto

Now I want to add some words to the list (eventually turning them into phrases) that focus more on behavior and mindset. Practicing these words these four words will take time and require patience – let the practice begin!
