Favorites List – November 2013

Here are some of my favorite foods to eat, things to do and books/articles to read this month!
To eat:
Fuyu Persimmons are one of the reasons why I love the fall. They are sweet and tasty, crunchy little bundles of joy. I enjoy eating fuyus persimmons fresh or as in a salad Spinach Salad with Fuyu Persimmon, Jicama & Avocado with Miso Dressing from Cookin’ Canuck.
Soup. I tend to cook and eat more soup during November, than any other month. As the days get shorter and the nights get longer nothing makes me feel all warm and toasty as a good bowl of homemade soup such as, this deliciously simple Chicken Noodle soup from Simply Recipes or this yummy Autumn Vegetable soup from Fine Cooking.
To do:
Oh how I enjoy walking around kicking the fall leaves and being totally amazed by the beautiful colors and shapes. Now it is even more enjoyable, because I am experiencing it with my daughters.
Hanging out with family and friends during Thanksgiving and reflecting on what we are thankful for.
Teaching indoor cycling classes at the new Ride Oakland a dedicated indoor cycling studio. Deb and Helen (co-owners) are great! Opening day is November 25th!
To read:
Food Rules An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan. Oh how I love reading this book over an over.

Best Food Quotes #7

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. That, more or less, is the short answer to the supposedly incredibly complicated and confusing question of what we humans should eat in order to be maximally healthy.
